Why so much hate?

March 23, 2010

For most intents and purposes, I find myself to be independent. Republicans stand for a lot of things I believe in, since I expect people to tighten up their bootstraps and get what needs to be done, done. I’m for business, lower taxes, etc…..those things are all great. I of course don’t follow everything they do, or else I would consider myself to be one.

That said, I don’t think I will ever make it all the way to that side of the fence. I’ve been bothered by the amount of hate and bigotry that is coming from the right. I’m old enough now to have seen politicians take their stand, understand what their views are, and then vote against he same things they said they voted for. I have heard Obama called awful, bigoted, racist things. I have heard republicans flaunt religion and moral superiority.

Why? Why is all this necessary in politics? Why is it that republicans have gone from a party of conservatives to a party of “my way or the highway?” Where is the cooperation? What happened to coming to an agreement? How are we supposed to learn and grow as a society if we can’t tolerate different views?

This is what I believe: The US will not convert to socialism because of a healthcare bill. Traditional Christian views are not in jeopardy because gays want to marry. I will not tolerate people calling Obama a n***** because they don’t like his politics. I wouldn’t call someone that, even if they pulled a gun on me.

Why can’t we start acting like grown-ups instead of children? Why can’t we tolerate other races/religions/viewpoints without taking them as a direct affront to our own way of life?

While writing this little diatribe I came across this article. It has a strong left curve, but the points made are valid, and many mirror the way I’ve felt about the Republican Party as of late.

Here is the article.

As you can see, I did not write the article. Please do not crab at me if you feel something is incorrect in the article. I’m saying that they make good points…..points that are worth considering and thinking about.

If you want to discuss, feel free to leave a message. I enjoy exchanging views on things and will consider any points of view left behind. Have a good day.

An update….

February 3, 2010

Old pic, but pretty close.

Apparently its been a while since I touched this blog.  Its been a busy year, and unfortunately I forgot that I had set this up.  On the bright side, due to me being unemployed for so long, I didn’t get the chance to do much on my house yet, so I’m not too far behind in my updates.

Anyway, as many of you have heard, I finally started a new job.  I’m doing tech support for the largest crop insurance agency on the planet.  Basically, we have agents, agencies and employees that all use software to make claims, maintain credentials and certifications, et cetera.  Well, all the applications require support, and that is where I come in.

It’s nice here.  The people are friendly, the building is brand new, the equipment is new, the expectations are reasonable, and my goals and metrics are clear.  <–This is full of win.  Seriously.  My more recent jobs were difficult to grow in because it was never clear what I would be graded on the most.  Additionally, I don’t have a ‘manager’ who marks me low in an area because he was told by his boss to make sure he had a “coaching point.”  Ugh.  I feel sorry for anyone who has had to endure that fresh hell.

Anyway, so I’m working out of Anoka, living in Crystal, and trying to get by day by day.  To those of you that have known me for a while, it might be apparent that in the course of me becoming unemployed, I’ve turtled in at home.  If you’ve seen me in person in the last year, you are one of a few bunch.  Once things start to relax and even out again, we’ll see about fixing that.

Maybe it’ll give me a little more time to work on this.  I suppose it may be time to resurrect this project and work on it again.  We’ll see, I’ve never been good at blogging…I just don’t care about it enough to keep on it.  My best attempt was HEREI think it ended some time in 2006 when I was in Norway.

So, to all of you who have been banging on my door for an update as to what happened to ‘ol Vinney, there you go.  There is a lot of stuff that happened in the last year, but this should be good for now.  Leave me a note, let me know you were here.

Mostly moved in!

July 1, 2008

About 90% of all my stuff has successfully made it to my house.  I’m still missing some minor borrowed items, my car, adn what ever I have in my storage facility in Rogers.  (This is actually my sister’s mostly, but that hasn’t stopped me from paying it so we don’t lose my late father’s stuff.)

I live in a world of boxes.   I have a FULL garage, and a house full of boxes.  I need time, but I am now traveling more than ever, and it doesn’t show signs of stopping.  I’ll have to find time.

I am exhausted.  I’ll have to sit down and write the whole back story on how things came to be, and why this blog is named what it is.  It’ll have to wait.  I’ve been without my own home for a full month, and since then I’ve always seemed to have one thing after another to do, and it keeps piling up.  I’ve never been so short on time in my life.  I know I can get things back under control, but right now I need the money and I need to tough it out for a while.

A quick note:  Thank you to all of the people who helped me move!  All five of you.  We got it done, but it took longer than expected.  I sent out an email to many people at work asking for help, and I recieved three responses back.  I told people I wouldn’t be mad if they couldn’t help, just let me know.  People out there, one note of advice:  Respond.  For the love of Bob respond.  A response allows someone to make other plans.  That’s all.

P.S.  As soon as I can unload my memory card reader, assemble my desk, get internet, etc….I’ll start posting pics.  Actually, I can use my lappy for the pics, I just need the reader.  Hang with me until then.
